Currituck Beach Lighthouse Free Climb Day & 148th Birthday Celebration
December 1, 2023 @ 11:00 am - 4:00 pm
Outer Banks Conservationists and the Currituck Beach Lighthouse invite you to celebrate the tower that in 1875 lit the East Coast’s last dark space! Still a public, active aid to navigation the beacon has not only guided thousands of Atlantic-faring ships to safety but is also an architectural delight, both inside and out!
Please come climb as our guest anytime from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Friday, December 1, 2023. By experiencing this 19th century light station’s powerful sense of place and time, you’re helping to celebrate the 148th birthday of the lighthouse, which preserves this local, state, and national history for another century and a half!
Learn from docents, brochures, exhibits, and artifacts about shipwrecks, the lives of lighthouse keepers, the history of the tower, and the original 1st order Fresnel lens at the site. The night marker is a 3 second-on, 17 second-off pattern; the day marker the tower’s unpainted red brick.
You may also commemorate the tower’s 148th year with a season pass for unlimited climbs, available for purchase for individuals and families, which also includes unlimited visits to Island Farm in Manteo.
