Currituck Beach Lighthouse Free Climb Day

March 18 @ 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

Outer Banks Conservationists and the Currituck Beach Lighthouse invite you to climb for free on the first day of our 2023 Season!

Join us any time 9am-5pm. A public, active aid to navigation, the Currituck Beach Lighthouse was built in 1875 to fill the last remaining “dark space” on the East coast. Open to the public since 1990, the tower will be open every day in season (weather permitting) 9am-5pm through November 30th. Enjoy the beautiful grounds, the 220 steps to the top, the panoramic view of the northern Outer Banks, a unique elliptical brick path, and the Victorian stick style buildings. The smaller Keeper’s dwelling is open as a museum shop.

Learn from docents, brochures, exhibits, and artifacts about shipwrecks, the lives of lighthouse keepers, the history of the tower, and the original 1st order Fresnel lens. The night marker is a 3 second-on, 17 second-off pattern; the day marker the tower’s unpainted red brick.

The station is open thanks to the Outer Banks Conservationists who own the tower through the National Historic Lighthouse House Act and work with with the Department of the Interior/NPS, the State of North Carolina, and the United States Coast Guard to maintain the site and its historic accuracy.
Ages 4+ welcome to climb. $12/person (card or cash) to climb the rest of the season; Season passes available too! https://obcinc.org/season-passes/ Admission paid at tower only (no advanced/online tickets). Liability waiver has to be signed on site for admission to tower.
Leashed pets welcome on grounds. Children 0-3 do not climb on their own but may enter secured in backpacks (only). Drones must stay outside fence.
