Are you passionate about the Outer Banks? Do you love history? How about working outside? If so, you might be a great fit for our 2021 seasonal team at Island Farm!
Island Farm is a 4-acre living history site just north of Manteo, dedicated to telling the story of early Outer Banks settlers that inhabited these sand banks in the mid-19th century. The site is centered around an original and restored pre-Civil War homestead, built in 1847. The Farm is open from April 6th through November – Tuesday through Friday, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Island Farm is hiring both historic interpreters and farm assistants for the 2021 season.
Our team of historic interpreters are tasked with bringing the past alive for visitors through a variety of hands-on activities, crafts, and trades. Each interpreter will learn a variety of historic skills and trades, including but not limited to: blacksmithing, hearth cooking, gardening, net hanging, crafts, and animal care. Island Farm hosts a variety of unique programs each week for visitors, school groups, as well as special workshops and events throughout the season.
This position includes work on the historic part of the Farm, as well as some time in the gift shop and Visitor Center.
The Farm Assistant position will be more focused in the agriculture and animal care aspects of Island Farm’s operations, including but not limited to: planting, harvesting, weeding, and picking produce, and interacting with the Farm’s cows, sheep, chicken, and horses for various programs.
To apply for either position, please send your resume to islandfarm@obcinc.org by March 20th for consideration.
