Switchel, a centuries old libation, was very popular in the United States during the 19th century. Also known as “Haymakers Punch”, this drink was a popular refreshment for fatigued field workers and sailors during the hot summer months. Made with molasses, ginger and cider vinegar, this drink is not only refreshing, but is also full of electrolytes.
